Spanish Restaurant Choices

January 4th, 2017

Craving some tapas? Anaheim is rich with Spanish restaurant picks, like Catal Restaurant in the downtown Disney district. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner all while boasting an impressive drink selection, you can start your morning with chilaquiles or a breakfast burrito, served with a cold brew coffee or espresso.

For lunch, try their manchego salad with arugula, or the hanger steak with chimichurri sauce. The traditional paella features roasted chicken, shrimp, clams, mussels and more. Salmon cheek and pork belly for dinner, or the roja/blanca sangria at happy hour is always popular.

Spanish Delights

Try the Felix Continental Café for their wide Spanish menu, including papas rellena (beloved in Cuba and usually available solely at street vendor stands). They feature a protein choice, potato and egg with bread crumbs. Their Mozzarella Provencal is your favorite cheese rolled in egg and bread crumbs, then deep fried and served with fresh tomatoes, onions and a white wine sauce.

Their Fricase de Pollo is chicken and potatoes with raisins, olives and a dry cooking wine with a rich sauce—a truly unique dish. Touting the “best omelets in town” and known for their one of a kind flavors, this café a real treat that you don’t want to miss.

Steakhouses in Anaheim

July 10th, 2016

Sometimes nothing but a prime cut will do, and there are plenty of top steakhouses to explore in the area. Start at Agora Churrascaria, a Brazilian-style all-you-can-eat meat “buffet” where the servers come to your table—and don’t stop until you call it quits! A hot foods and salad bar, separate dessert menu, and extensive cocktail list complement the endless top sirloin, skirt steak, beef wrapped in bacon, beef ribs and so much more.

Grilled Steak on a Fork

Mastro’s Steakhouse is an upscale establishment with plenty of steaks, chops, seafood and sides to choose from. The New York pepper steak, filets, porterhouse, herb-rubbed options and bone-in Kansas style cut are all favorites. However, their one-pound baked potato is a challenge many come to Mastro’s to take down.

Treat Yourself

Trabuco Oaks Steakhouse is a local favorite that features the famous two-pound cowboy steak. Their BBQ is delectable, with the cowpoke top sirloin and 16 oz. porterhouse always making the “cut.” The 8 oz. “tenderfoot” filet mignon melts instantly in your mouth, and the dessert menu with their Hot Cherry Gizmo—a cherry filling wrapped in a fried tortilla, deep fried then dressed with ice cream and cherry sauce—is a real work of art.

Top Thai Food

June 9th, 2016

If it’s Thai you’re craving, you’re in luck because the Anaheim area has some delicious and authentic restaurants. Fasai Thai Restaurant is a little nook that’s open until 10pm and is renowned for authenticity and spice levels you can customize—but be careful about going “hot!” Specials are constantly changing, but one consistency is the fresh flavors, incredible spices and the sheer passion that’s evident in each dish.

Pad Nor Mai (Thai food)

You might also want to try You & I Thai Cuisine, serving classic Thai dishes until 9pm each night. The adorable name makes it a favorite for date nights and holidays, too. There’s some fusion on the menu, and the owners are quick to make dishes palatable for kids. Customize your spice levels to suit your heat tolerance.

Thai Adore You

At Thai Lingo Restaurant, beer and wine pair perfectly with both traditional and innovative dishes. Open just until 8:30, it’s the ideal happy-hour spot and a popular takeout option for locals. You can also start your night here before heading out to a beach party, night club or night cap at a local rooftop bar.

Spicy Thai Restaurant perfectly blends the chic atmosphere of an LA nightclub with very authentic dishes. It’s a favorite spot for a special celebration or for anyone looking for an excuse to dress up and dine on amazing fare.

Catalina Island Day Trip

May 10th, 2016

May is the perfect month for a Catalina day trip. Just 22 miles from the shores of Malibu, sheer paradise awaits (as if southern California’s mainland isn’t paradise enough!). This quaint, charming, Mediterranean-style town has incredible dining, pampering and nightlife. Avalon and Two Harbors are the two hot spots that really come to life at night, perfect for wining, dining and dancing.

Catch a movie at the Avalon Theater, or slip into your dancing shoes for the Descanso Beach Club. The Island Spa will treat you right with the Sea Oxygen De-Age treatment using pure white algae, white wine, copper, and white tea to detox your body and refresh your mind. Their classic facial treatments, anti-aging treatments, and brow perfectors pair perfectly with massages.

A Slice of Paradise

Camping and boating, including “primitive camping,” lets you truly get away from it all. Boat-in camping sites, mooring sites, guided camping trips, and the ability to really go off the grid on your own are all possible on Catalina. Blackjack Campground is Catalina’s highest peak and offers incredible views of the terrain and ocean.

You can go ziplining, golfing on an 18-hole course, take a scenic tour, or board a glass-bottom boat. Where will Catalina take you?

February 9th, 2016

Will you be spending Valentine’s Day at Disneyland, or are you planning ahead with reservations at one of the most romantic restaurants in town? Many people do both! The morning at Disneyland is truly magical, especially for those planning a surprise proposal. The evening out at an intimate eatery is divine too. Where will your whirlwind romance take you?

Napa Rose is known for its wines (of course) as well as flights, tastings, and a special prix fixe menu on this day. Try Anepalco Restaurant or il garage, or ask your front desk staff for recommendations.

Icing on the Cake

No Valentine’s Day is complete without sweets and flowers. Ace Flower Shop opens at 9am and is up for taking last minute orders. Blossom Flowers is an institution in the OC offering fantastic arrangements at a variety of price points. Call Flowers by Cina or Mums the Word for help designing your ultimate bouquet.

As for chocolates and sweets, you can rely on Ghirardelli Chocolate to really deliver the romance. There’s a See’s Candies nearby, and Rocky Mountain Chocolates offers an impressive variety of sugar-free chocolates, if that’s a necessity. Make this Valentine’s Day one for the record books!

Vegan/Vegetarian Options Near Anaheim

January 4th, 2016

Veg foodies are in paradise in southern California. Nowhere else is it so easy to customize your food choices or be in such good company. With health and wellness as a top priority in Anaheim, it’s no surprise that restaurants are catering to the veg demographic. Healthy Junk is a 100 percent vegan operation open for lunch and dinner. The chef is imaginative, the menu is creative, and all of your non-veg friends will be more than happy to make this “your spot.”

Hao Sen is another vegetarian option, dishing up Asian fusion cuisine. If you’ve wished all your favorite Asian dishes could be vegetarian, it’s come to fruition here. Green Tomato Grill offers a smorgasbord (literally!) of vegetarian options and is open ‘til 9 p.m. for dinner. There’s also Mead’s Green Door, a vegetarian café and coffee house open for breakfast and lunch.

Rajdhani Indian Cuisine is all vegetarian, and it’s the best place to get your northern Indian fix. From Kareem’s Restaurant to Radhe Sweets and Catering, there’s no place like Anaheim for vegetarians.

Spectacular Sushi in Anaheim

January 4th, 2016

You’re on a roll in Anaheim, with some of the best sushi in southern California just a few miles from the hotel. Orange Roll and Sushi is a local staple, featuring just as many classic rolls as inventive, fusion style options. Miyako is a Japanese favorite that serves a lot more than sushi, yet their perfect rolls are what keep diners coming back time and time again. Try Sushi Teriyaki for a quick and tasty treat or Sushi Yun for specialty rolls in a quaint setting.

Biyako offers a simple setting for fantastic Japanese cuisine, including mouthwatering sushi rolls. Sato Sushi features some of the most creative rolls in town, alongside staples that everyone loves. Head to Kaori Sushi for traditional Japanese fare done right or Chomp Rockin’ Sushi & Teppan Grills to add a little theatrical flare to your outing.
