Fourth of July Festivities

If you’re seeking out a non-Disneyland day of patriotism, head to Lake Forest for the annual Fourth of July parade. It starts at 10 a.m. on the corner of Ridge Route Drive and Toledo, ending in Dayton. It’s a small and charming celebration that’s family friendly and gives you plenty of time to check out additional events, celebrations and fireworks around the area.

Fourth of July

In Los Alamitos, the Fireworks Celebration begins at 4 p.m. with a food court and fun zone for kids. Bring a lawn chair and blanket for the fireworks extravaganza taking place at 9 p.m. Hosted by the Joint Forces Training Base, this is another option for those looking for a relaxing and low-key holiday that ends with a bang.

A Celebration Steeped in Nostalgia

Head to the Mission Viejo Annual Street Faire and Fireworks Spectacular held on Olympia Road. It’s a classic-style event with games, rides and much more in a carnival atmosphere. Suitable for all ages, you’ll find food vendors and displays, free entertainment including live music and dancing, and comedy performances for all. At dusk, the fireworks display is one of the best in the region.

Alternatively, you can check out the Old Glory Boat Parade at Newport Beach, where boat owners deck out their “ladies” in patriotic décor. Streamers, balloons and decorations fill the skyline while the Sousa Marches and Anthems entertain. Yacht clubs represent strongly as everyone competes to be the best in the boat brigade.
