Martin Luther King Jr. Celebrations

How are you celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Anaheim? Children’s Book World hosts an annual storytelling session for kids ages four and up on January 14 at 10:30 a.m. Learn about civil rights while interacting with skilled children’s storytellers. Stay and browse, shop, and indulge in some treats to start the holiday weekend right.

The 29th annual MLK Jr. Peace and Unity Parade takes place at noon on January 16 with over 25,000 attendees flocking to MLK Jr. Boulevard each year. Learn about local organizations, enjoy carnival rides, and watch the floats and entertainment acts as the streets shut down all the way across Crenshaw for a full day of peace and brotherhood.

The Best Ways to Celebrate

At the California African American Museum, Cake for King is a special festival for kids that’s full of activities, arts and crafts, and, of course, plenty of birthday cake. From 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., stop by for face painting, or check out a documentary.

Visit the “I Have a Dream” Wall at Kiddie Center, located on Crenshaw Boulevard, for a full day of fun and entertainment. Add your handprints to the wall along with your own dream expression. The wall is always the focal point of the holiday and a great tool to inspire youth.
